WaterLinked Story

In 2013, while working full time at his own underwater technology consultancy, Torgeir Trøite founded Water Linked in Trondheim, Norway.  The objective was to address the need for reliable and affordable technology within the underwater industry through disruptive innovative product design. Oliver Skisland joined the company as CEO in late 2016 and quickly decided they had to test the waters with their newly developed underwater positioning system which they named the Underwater GPS (UGPS).

Oceanology International North America (OINA) in San Diego was chosen to showcase this new technology, where it received an overwhelmingly positive response. Market disruption had begun and we moved quickly to partner with Blue Robotics to ensure the final product was tailored to best suit the customer needs.

3 Modem M64

Modem M64 - WaterLinked Underwater Positioning

 

• Small size: Its small size makes it easy to integrate on any ROV/AUV.

• Easy to use: Auto-sync and being fully omnidirectional makes reliable communication easy.

• Proprietary protocol: Reduce packet loss and stop worrying about poor data quality.

Modem M64 operating principle:

1. Auto Sync
The modems are set to the same channel and will auto-sync after a few seconds. After sync is complete, each modem are given dedicated timeslots where they are allowed to transmit and when they shall listen.

2. Transmit / Receive
When a modem receives a payload of data from its host (in this case, an AUV) it will start transmitting this payload in a package structure where each package is 64 bits.
The other modem which is in sync, will receive the transmitted data packages in dedicated time slots.

3. Modem M64
Each AUV carries a Modem M64 which is interfaced using a lightweight API.
